Mangat Family Opens Corner Market in American Canyon Ahead of October 22 Celebration as Napa Honors Small World Restaurant
The Mangat family launches Corner Market at Canyon Corners Plaza in American Canyon ahead of an October 22 ribbon-cutting while downtown Napa celebrates 30 years of Small World Restaurant.

Independent family grocers and longtime culinary proprietors are strengthening neighborhood commerce across southern Napa County this week as a new market opens in American Canyon and downtown Napa celebrates a three-decade dining institution. In American Canyon, the Mangat family—proprietors of Napa's Food City Market, Pueblo Market, and Solano Market—opened the 2,626-square-foot Corner Market at 110 West American Canyon Road, Suites L3 and L4 in Canyon Corners Plaza. Municipal economic development officials and city council members from American Canyon, Napa, and Walnut Creek praised the investment for revitalizing a retail storefront that had stood vacant since Goodwill closed in 2024.
Corner Market will host its official grand opening celebration and Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 22, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, welcoming neighbors with complimentary appetizers and refreshments. Inside the 2,626-square-foot shop, shelves are stocked with fresh English muffins and pastries from Model Bakery, locally roasted coffee from Naysayer Coffee Roasters, curated Napa Valley wines, and everyday household groceries. Chamber board directors noted that independent neighborhood markets keep over 70 percent of retail spending circulating within the local tax district.
Co-owner Jimmy Mangat explained that interior renovations began in April 2025 with a dedicated focus on personalized customer service and stocking specific shelf requests suggested by nearby residents. Following review by state and municipal licensing departments, the store secured a newly approved alcoholic beverage license and is preparing to install ICEE frozen drink dispensers and California Lottery machines. Neighborhood commuters along Highway 29 welcomed having convenient morning coffee and grocery access minutes from home.
Meanwhile in downtown Napa, the city's Legacy Business recognition program spotlighted Small World Restaurant at 928 Coombs Street for its enduring cultural and culinary contributions. Founded and operated by owner Mike Ali Musa alongside dedicated staffers Jaber Alimusa, Saleem Alimusa, and Rico Gramlich, the family eatery has served freshly prepared Middle Eastern falafel, shawarma, hummus, and warm hospitality for more than 30 years. Above the counter hangs a signature community banner reading Together We Are Strong, reflecting the restaurant's support for local school fundraisers and civic commissions.
Community members can attend the Corner Market grand opening ribbon-cutting free of charge ($0 admission) at 110 West American Canyon Road on Thursday, October 22, between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, or review Chamber schedules at americancanyonchamber.org. Diners visiting downtown Napa can order from Small World Restaurant at 928 Coombs Street by calling (707) 226-7722 between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM or browsing smallworldrestaurant.com.
