Autumn Cinema Slate Features Wild Horse Nine, I Play Rocky, Being Heumann, and Club Kid

For weekend cultural outings, theaters and streaming platforms are debuting five major autumn film releases exploring creative resilience, political history, and personal transformation, reviewed by film critic Beau Behan:

  • Wild Horse Nine (Searchlight Pictures): Directed by Martin McDonagh and photographed on Easter Island by cinematographer Ben Davis, the drama reunites John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell as veteran operatives reckoning with guilt and friendship against the backdrop of the 1973 Chilean coup, co-starring Mariana Di Girolamo and Ailín Salas.
  • I Play Rocky (Amazon/MGM Studios): Directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Anthony Ippolito alongside AnnaSophia Robb, Matt Dillon, and Toby Kebbell, the biographical drama chronicles young Sylvester Stallone's refusal to sell away his starring role before Rocky reached the screen.
  • Being Heumann (Apple): Directed by Siân Heder, the film stars Ruth Madeley as disability-rights leader Judith Heumann alongside Mark Ruffalo, Dylan O'Brien, and Rob Delaney, dramatizing the landmark 1977 protests that forced implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Club Kid (A24) and The Cat in the Hat (Warner Bros. Pictures): Writer-director Jordan Firstman stars alongside Cara Delevingne and Reggie Absolom in the New York nightlife parenthood comedy-drama Club Kid, while directors Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja lead an animated reimagining of The Cat in the Hat voiced by Bill Hader, Xochitl Gomez, Tiago Martinez, and America Ferrera.
