The St. Helena Farmers’ Market will hold the final market of its 40th anniversary season this Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to noon under the oaks and redwoods at Crane Park, 360 S. Crane Ave., while Upvalley organizations host a week of Halloween and cultural programs and Vintage High School opens its fall theater production in north Napa, according to three reports published Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, by the Napa Valley Register (farmers’ market report by Katherine Gold, Upvalley calendar, and Vintage High theater preview by Sarah Dowling).

40 Years at Crane Park: From Nine Vendors in 1986 to 50+ Today

Founded in 1986 by Karen Cakebread alongside five local women with nine original vendors in the old Southern Pacific Railroad Depot parking lot—now home to Ciccio restaurant—the St. Helena Farmers’ Market moved several years later to Crane Park to accommodate growing crowds. Market leaders noted the market now hosts more than 50 vendors every Friday from May through October.

According to Market Manager Emily Aschero and Board President Karen Cakebread, one founding grower still sells at the market today: Tom Barrilleaux of Barrilleaux Buttler Family Farm in Calistoga, known to shoppers as “Tomato Tom,” who has brought dry-farmed organic tomatoes to the market for all 40 seasons. At last Friday’s market, customers also queued 15 deep at Happy Boy Farms for winter squash and tomato bins, picked up apple cider donuts from Little Apple Treats, and shopped floral bouquets from local growers including Lor Farm, started by Blia Yang after emigrating from Thailand in 1989 and now run with her daughter Lee Lor.

Over the past six years, the market has donated nearly $100,000 in Market Match funds and educational grants to nine local nonprofits. Through the Market Match program, CalFresh EBT shoppers receive up to $15 per week in matching tokens for fresh fruits and vegetables, and children in the Sprouts Kids Club receive $2 in market bucks each Friday plus a $10 completion bonus at the end of the season.

This Friday’s Oct. 30 finale from 7:30 a.m. to noon will feature pumpkin carving, face painting, adult and kids’ costume contests, and live bluegrass by High Strung stringband.
