Municipal engineers with the Town of Yountville Public Works Department and watershed specialists from the Napa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District have completed their late-October creek inspection, sediment removal, and bank-stabilization program along Hopper Creek ahead of the 2026–2027 winter rainy season. Reviewed with the Yountville Town Council in October 2026, the annual maintenance effort safeguards both residential streets and the world-renowned culinary and hospitality corridor along Washington Street.
Flowing out of the western Mayacamas Mountains through the heart of Yountville before joining the main stem of the Napa River, Hopper Creek carries rapid runoff during winter atmospheric river storms. Throughout October, municipal crews and county stream maintenance technicians cleared fallen valley oak branches and gravel bars from bridge culverts at Yount Street, Finnell Road, Oak Circle, and Mulberry Street while reinforcing creek embankments with native willow plantings and boulder revetments.
In tandem with the physical channel clearing, hydrologists calibrated the automated ultrasonic water-level sensors and rain gauges mounted along the Hopper Creek corridor, which feed real-time telemetry into Napa County's OneRain flood-warning network. Town staff also inspected the pedestrian footbridges and paved Vine Trail connectors that link Yountville's boutique inns, tasting rooms, and restaurants with the Yountville Community Center and Veterans Home campus.
Self-serve sandbag stations stocked with sand and woven bags are pre-positioned for Yountville residents and business owners at the Corporation Yard on Solano Avenue. Community members can sign up for Alert Napa County emergency text notifications or view Hopper Creek stream-gauge links online at townofyountville.com or by calling Town Hall at (707) 944-8851.
