Yountville Approves Year-Round Decorative Street Lighting as Eames Retrospective Opens in St. Helena
Town council dedicates annual maintenance funds for Washington Street illumination while Napa Valley MAC debuts iconic design showcase.

The Yountville Town Council voted on Wednesday to transition the town's popular seasonal decorative lighting along Washington Street into a permanent, year-round civic program, authorizing an estimated $25,000 to $30,000 in annual maintenance and replacement funding. Originally expanded during winter hospitality campaigns, the warm white LED canopy lighting across Yountville's central pedestrian corridor drew widespread praise from local restaurateurs, gallery owners, and evening walkers for improving crosswalk visibility and downtown ambiance.
Public works department staff assured council members that the year-round program incorporates periodic arborist inspections so light strands are loosened and adjusted as mature street trees expand their canopy girth. By budgeting dedicated annual maintenance rather than paying for full seasonal installation and removal each autumn and spring, the town achieves long-term operational savings while supporting evening dining patronage across Napa County.
Ten miles north along Highway 29 in St. Helena, the Napa Valley Museum of Art & Culture celebrated the opening of "Eames & Eames," a comprehensive retrospective honoring twentieth-century industrial design pioneers Ray and Charles Eames. Curated by the couple's granddaughter, Llisa Demetrios, the exhibition showcases original molded plywood lounge chairs, archival architectural photography, kinetic toys, and multimedia films exploring California mid-century modernism.
Upvalley cultural programming continues into early November as UpStage Napa Valley prepares its sixth annual PlayFest, themed "Noir," featuring nine original fifteen-minute plays across three weekends from November 6 through November 22 at Grace Episcopal Church's Newton Hall in St. Helena. Visitors can review Yountville municipal agendas at townofyountville.com and reserve museum gallery tickets at napavalleymac.org.
