When 1989 St. Helena High School graduate Kyle Schuh is inducted into the St. Helena High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 7, he will join both his late father, Chris Schuh, and his former college roommate, Matt Cia, among the school's honored athletes, the Napa Valley Register reported.

The 14th annual St. Helena High School Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony begins with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Native Sons Hall in St. Helena. Joining Schuh in the 2026 class are athletes Terry Vulcani (Class of 1963), Deja Talley (Class of 1989), Matt Hardin (Class of 2001), and Amizetta Clark (Class of 2004), along with Distinguished Service Award honoree Ilona Falvy.

Following Chris Schuh and Matt Cia Into the Hall of Fame

Chris Schuh, who passed away in June 2017, was inducted into the St. Helena High School Athletic Hall of Fame 10 years ago after winning the Samuel Clark Gilman Athlete of the Year award in 1965. Kyle Schuh earned the same Samuel Clark Gilman Athlete of the Year award in 1988, while Cia, a 1988 St. Helena graduate, entered the Hall of Fame in 2024.

A three-sport varsity standout in football, basketball, and baseball, Schuh set a school record for the longest touchdown pass at 98 yards to wide receiver Dan Gomes against rival Justin-Siena. He also set a single-game school record of 28 completions as a junior in 1987 and finished his two-year varsity football career with 152 completions in 341 attempts for 2,100 yards and 15 touchdowns, earning all-Superior California Athletic League honorable mention recognition twice.

Basketball, Baseball, and Three Decades of Coaching

On the basketball court, Schuh made eight 3-pointers in a single game against Justin-Siena during the inaugural season of the 3-point shot in 1987-88, when he averaged 15.4 points per game as a junior and led the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section with 67 3-pointers. Over two varsity seasons, he scored 570 points and totaled 110 3-pointers, earning first-team all-SCAL honors as a junior and second-team honors as a senior. In baseball, he batted .400 with 20 RBIs as a junior and compiled a .392 career batting average over two varsity seasons.

After graduating from Chico State in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and earning his teaching credential from Chapman University in 1997, Schuh returned to coach football at St. Helena High from 1996 through 2001 — including two seasons as varsity head coach — before joining Vintage High School in 2007, where he has served as junior varsity head coach for 19 years, including 11 seasons alongside varsity head coach Dylan Leach.
